Our goal is to help publisher Rafael Martinez go from a 14 handicap to single digits and break 80 through six lessons — and a lot of diligent, focused practice time — over a year. We began at Chelsea Piers on a rather chilly day.
Case Study
Past History
Over 10 years of play Rafael has been very inconsistent. He is currrently playing to a 14 handicap and has never broken 80 on a championship course. He has a
tremendous love of the game and its history.
Body Restrictions
Rafael has no major injuries to work around, but he has flexibility issues we will work on over the next year.
Goal
Rafael and I sat down and discussed realistic goals. We looked at his current ability, his playing time, and with his hectic work schedule, his ability to practice. The realistic goals for Rafael are: to lower his handicap to single digits (from 14 to nine) in one year and to break 80 on a championship course.

There is an epoch in American history known simply as “Hard Times”. It was explored thoroughly by Richard Pryor’s comedic genius with his character Mud Bone who spoke about a period that had no numerical date, no start and no conclusion but was consistently difficult for folks struggling with the day to day grind of making an honest living. “Hard Times” is an ongoing phenomenon that continues to surface throughout human history.
