My First Time

My first time playing golf was in Queensland, Australia, actually, in 1996. It was a celebrity weekend event and I was in television at that time. That weekend I was playing with a bunch of other actors, national soccer players, swimmers and athletes. Some were great and some were only doing it for the first time. It was a very interesting event. Ultimately, I think golf is a great equalizer because you can be strong, but without a good swing or balance or grip the ball is not going to go anywhere. So it was kind of interesting to see some of the athletes swinging and missing the ball completely. Not that my game was much better—I was terrible as well. On the first occasion I lost a fair amount of balls to several ponds and shrubs and you name it. I also had to let a whole bunch of players play through and actually spent more time repairing divots than actually hitting the ball. So that was my first time playing, but it’s very interesting because it wasn’t until my second time that I fell in love with the game. And that was a good eight years later.
