Rolleiflex Mini Digi AF 5.0
Some images are timeless, you say? Well so are some of the cameras used to capture those oh so timeless images. Chief among these timeless cameras is the Rollieflex Twin Lens of 1929. A marvel of optical engineering, the Rollieflex Twin Lens was produced by German manufacturers Paul Franke and Reinhold Heidecke.
It quickly became the industry standard for professional photographers worldwide. In Hollywood’s halcyon days the Rollieflex Twin Lens captured stars ranging from Paul Robeson to Sidney Poitier. And more importantly because of its portability and simplicity the Rollieflex expanded the rarified world of photography to those who ordinarily would not have dreamed of wielding a camera.
Fast forward to 2008 and the guys at Rollieflex have released a replica of this classic piece of hardware with the most modern of twists. This enduring classic is now digital and sized down to fit in the palm of your hand. Luckily, the exterior has remained exactly the same and the designers made their newest masterpiece a five mega-pixel miniature powerhouse. It’s still crank action though now instead of advancing a reel of film the throwback hand crank prepares the camera for the next digital frame. And because the viewfinder is on top of the camera you can still shoot from the waist just as comfortably as you could with the original. All in all, the Rollieflex MiniDigiAF5.0 proves that some cameras may in fact be even more timeless than the portraits they produce. Just don’t mention that to the woman in your life.

They were also responsible for the charting the 50-year orbit of the often-sought, and Stevie Wonder-celebrated, star of Po Tolo.
