The 21st National Hispanic Women's Conference
On October 12-13, 2006, The Hispanic Women’s Corporation (HWC) hosted their 21st National Hispanic Women’s Conference with the theme of “Latina Power: The Billion Dollar Market.” This year’s conference, which featured The Green Magazine’s own Ina Samuel-Martinez as a guest speaker, focused on the present and future status of Latina women as leaders and professionals. Honored guests included Eva Longoria of ABC’s smash hit Desperate Housewives and successful author and columnist Maria Marin. Founded in 1981, HWC is a non-profit corporation geared toward the development and growth of Hispanic women through education, community involvement, leadership and professional advancement.

On Monday, September 25, 2006, a star-studded cast of participants took to the green at the Lake of Isles golf course at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The event, which helps provide college scholarships and leadership training for minority students, was headlined by golf legend Lee Elder and hosted by Boston Celtic icons Bill Russell and Sam Jones.
The N’Namdi New York locale provided just the touch to cap off The Green Magazine’s 2006 art gallery series. Nationally exhibited visual storyteller Nanette Carter was the artisan of the evening, and guests had the opportunity to sample rare South African spirits and custom rolled cigars. The Green looks forward to future opportunities to support the arts.
On October 5, 2006, excited guests woke up bright and early to join “King of Comedy” Steve Harvey for a special broadcast of “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” at the Fairmount Southampton Beach Club in Bermuda. Harvey was there to host the 11th Annual Bermuda Music Festival, but he transported his morning show all the way from New York and took co-hosts Nephew Tommy and Shirley Strawberry along with him. Festival performers Charlie Wilson and Teena Marie were amongst the festival performers who joined Harvey on the air.
