According to Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Roscoe Parrish, he keeps a clean house. Dirty dishes never occupy the sink’s basin and squalor is not permitted in any room. Parrish’s attitude on organization in the home is understandable considering his line of work. On any given Sunday, he is asked to create in the eye of chaos. As Buffalo’s punt returner, he simultaneously watches the melee of stampeding bodies charging at him and the football falling out of the sky in his direction. Mathematicians determine that the average hang time for a punt lasts roughly 4.6 seconds. That only leaves one second to gather his wits and secure the all-important ball. This technique is drilled into the minds of all who play this position. Parrish has the one thing that cannot be taught by three-hour-long film sessions and daunting two-a-days—speed.
Roscoe Parrish’s lightening 4.37 time makes him a hard target. His 19.0 yards per return led the NFL in 2008 and forced the opposition’s special teams coaches to start updating their resumes. One of the obstacles standing in this native Floridian’s way, besides the rushing defenders, is the weather of his new home team—Buffalo. Those late December games often make for blistery, Old Man Winter conditions. However, adapting to new surroundings is what this speedster does best. In an effort to conquer a new terrain, Parrish played a round of golf with TGM at the Jim McLean Golf School at the Doral Resort & Spa in Doral, Florida.

In the storied history of the NFL, each coach has had their own philosophy to the game. Some stratagems consisted of passing on every play. While others simply blitzed on every play. Even their personalities were unique. The “Iron” Mike Ditka wannabes differed from the Kleenex-grabbing Dick Vermeils of the profession. No matter their approach to Sunday’s televised scrum, the final result was clear—victory. A simple principle to players and fans, but one many of the sports writers and football pundits who cover the game tend to forget.
